Campus Police and Parking

The University of Akron Wayne College employs a full-time police officer. The police officer is commissioned by the State of Ohio with full law enforcement authority including powers of arrest.

The police officer enforces all state laws and the rules and regulations governing The University of Akron. The police officer is also responsible for public safety services such as crime reports, traffic accidents, parking complaints, and other incidents requiring police assistance.

In addition to investigating criminal complaints, the police officer provides various free public services to students including escort service to the parking lots, battery jumps, and vehicle lockout assistance. If the service falls outside of the officer's jurisdiction, the officer will refer the student or employee to the appropriate agency. The police officer will also provide educational programs upon request to students and employees regarding personal safety and crime prevention.

In the absence of the campus police, students are asked to contact the Student Services Office who will contact the proper authorities for assistance. If the Student Services Office is closed, all campus telephones are equipped to connect with the 911 emergency number.

For safety, the Univeristy has added blue emergency responce devices throughout the parking lots.
