Testing Protocol in the Smucker Learning Center

  1. Receive letters of accommodation from the student. This is typically done at the beginning of the semester. Review the letter with the student, sign one copy and return it in the provided envelope to the Smucker Learning Center. Keep the other copy for your confidential records.
  2. At least a week before a scheduled exam or quiz, the student will present you with a Room Reservation Form. Complete the bottom portion labeled “Instructor.” This information is used to implement the student’s testing accommodations. It is the student’s responsibility to bring this form to the instructor.
  3. The student will return this form to the Smucker Learning Center, at which time the room will be scheduled for the exam and arrangements for other approved accommodations will be made.
  4. Unless otherwise contacted, the student will be scheduled to take the exam at the same time as the rest of the class. Smucker Learning Center staff will contact you if there is a conflict that could result in the student taking the test at a different day or time.
  5. It is essential that the test be delivered to the Smucker Learning Center prior to the beginning of the scheduled test time. Tests can be placed in the locked drop box outside of B-107 or given to Smucker Learning Center staff. Please speak directly to Julie Harztler or Stephanie Baker before emailing a test. Only instructors should handle exams; do not give your exams to students to bring to the Smucker Learning Center.
  6. Students have the right to use or to not use their accommodations. Students may choose to take the exam in class without extended time. Students choosing to use their extended-time accommodations should schedule their exams with the Smucker Learning Center.
  7. After the student completes the test, the test will be sealed in an envelope and kept in a locked cabinet. Instructors must pick up their tests in person and will be asked to sign the student’s test folder to acknowledge receipt of the test. Any Smucker Learning Center front desk staff member can give an instructor a test. Tests can be picked up between 8 a.m and 8 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Fridays, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. Tests will not be put in faculty members’ mailboxes.
  8. If you have questions about any Smucker Learning Center testing procedures, please contact the desk assistant at 330-684-8960, wc-lcsa@akron.edu.
