Wayne College Hires New Golf Coach

Jeanne PritchardThe University of Akron Wayne College announced former Medina High School golf coach Jeanne Pritchard has been named to lead the Wayne Warrior’s men’s golf team.

A legend in Medina County sports, Pritchard coached the Medina High School boys team for 18 years, taking them to the D-I state tournament seven times and placing in the top six on five occasions. She also had a 162-19 dual record and won nine league titles, five sectional crowns, two district championships, and 10 Medina County Gazette Coach of the Year awards before retiring in 2014.  She is responsible for starting the girls’ golf program at MHS in 1998 and qualifyied for state twice. She also coached two All-Ohio golfers in her career.

Pritchard’s roots run deep in the sport. A decorated amateur golfer, she won five Greater Cleveland golf championships and 13 club championships at Rawiga Country Club. She is a Betty Kerby Peppard Award receipient from the Women’s Ohio State Golf Association and has been recognized as a Northern Ohio PGA Legend of Golf. She has also been inducted into the Medina County Sports Hall of Fame and the Ohio Golf Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Pritchard was the first woman on the Rawiga Country Club Board of Directors and served as the executive director for the Women’s Ohio State Golf Association.

A graduate of The Ohio State University, she earned a bachelor’s degree in education and began her golf career there as a walk on. She went on to earn a master’s degree at Ashland University and to coach multiple sports teams at Medina High School in addition to golf including volleyball, track and field, and cheerleading .

The Wayne Warriors have been in transition since winning the ORCC (Ohio Regional Campus Conference) championship three consecutive years 2010-12. Pritchard said she is looking forward to re-establishing Wayne College as a force in the ORCC. “Jeanne brings an outstanding personal and professional resume to this position,” says Wayne College Athletic Director David Rubens. “We’re extremely pleased to have her at the helm and look forward to a bright future under her direction.”
