Christina Lamoreux is entering her third year as a UA Wayne College student majoring in nursing. The Wadsworth, Ohio native, whose hobbies include reading, being out in nature and going on hikes, is the type of student who is a natural fit for the close-knit campus community and beautiful open spaces of UA Wayne.
Christina had originally planned on applying to The University of Akron campus. However, she learned from a friend who was in the nursing program that she was able to receive her bachelor’s degree completely at Wayne and decided to check it out. “I love that I can get my bachelor’s at Wayne and that my nursing courses and clinicals are in smaller groups, allowing me to receive one-on-one assistance when I am struggling,” she said.
Although she was very nervous about transitioning to college and did not know what to expect, she was surprised by how friendly and helpful the staff and professors are and how easy it was to get to know her peers and professors on a more personal level. “I also love Wayne’s location and that it is not in a busy, populated city. I enjoy being able to study from various locations like the library, nursing wing and outside on the picnic tables,” she said.
A student employee working in the library, Christina says she enjoys the convenience of being able to work before or after classes on campus, as well as having the ability to focus on homework during downtime at work. “I am very grateful to have a flexible schedule that works alongside my classes,” she said. Christina added that being a student employee has helped her become more aware of the different resources and organizations that are available for students.
Christina plans to graduate in May 2027, and upon graduation would like to work as a pediatric or labor and delivery nurse, potentially pursuing higher education later in her career.
