Wayne College Announces Phi Theta Kappa Inductees

The University of Akron Wayne College inducted a total of twenty-two students into the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society at the organization’s spring ceremony held on April 21 at the College’s Orrville campus. To become a member of Phi Theta Kappa, a student must have a GPA of 3.5 or greater and have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours.

Wayne College students tapped for membership in Phi Theta Kappa this spring include: Julie Atwood, Tammy Auble, Joseph Buss, Wendy Delrio, Cody Dice, Jeff Dumire, Connie Garver, Regina Gingerich, Mandisa L’Bert-Kaalima, Benjamin Lehman, Denise Messier, John Miller, Lehel Nagy, Millie Pejnovic, Gretchen Pleuss, Chelsea Reigle, Leslie Reigle, Jason Short, John Sohar, Samantha Stephens, Michael Stricklett and Tayler Whitmeyer.

The Wayne College chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, Alpha Zeta Chi, was established at Wayne College in 1981, and is led by co-advisors Gary Bays, Associate Professor of English, and A.J. Snow, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Biology.

According to Snow, “Induction into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society is an impressive achievement exemplifying student success here at Wayne College. It is the largest honor society in American higher education and I am very proud to help induct our new members.”

The event keynote speaker was Douglas Kline, Ph.D., Professor of Biological Sciences at Kent State University. Kline is a scientist and teacher whose research work is supported by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. Kline spoke on the topic of “Recognizing Achievement and Aiming for Excellence”. Music for the induction ceremony was provided by guitarist Christian Triola.
