AT&T Awards Grant to Orrville Area Boys & Girls Club
Funds will be used to purchase 3D lab equipment
Students from the Orrville Area Boys & Girls Club made themselves at home as they entered the UAWC3 Lab at The University of Akron Wayne College for a special presentation on Oct. 24. In fact, they were more familiar with the equipment and technology than some of the adults who were there because every two weeks the students attend 3D printing workshops in the lab made possible by generous donations, like the one that was taking place that afternoon.
Wayne College: Applied Learning is in the DNA
Wayne College biology professor A.J. Snow believes that students learn best by doing, and that belief -- along with significant community support -- has helped him create one of the most technologically advanced biology labs in the area.
Over $40,000 in new lab equipment, donated by local individuals and businesses, will be available to Wayne College students this fall. The equipment includes a microscope with a digital camera and Wi-Fi capabilities, a PCR machine that allows students to amplify DNA as they would for a crime scene investigation, and a plate reader for protein based tests common in the pharmaceutical and biotechnological industry.
The Akron campus Military Services Center is located in Simmons Hall 120 (map) and is available to assist you from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. You are also welcome to contact them by telephone at 330-972-7838 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Wayne College’s school certifying official for veterans, Barb Caillet, is located in the Student Services Center at Wayne College and can be reached at 330-684-8935 or by email at email@example.com.
The entire faculty and staff at Wayne College would like to welcome you to the Wayne College community. Wayne College is situated in the midst of 160-acres of beautiful countryside in Orrville, Ohio. It is a modern, easy access, sprawling facility surrounded by walking trails, an aquatic area and athletic facilities.
The campus provides the benefits of a major university in a safe, relaxed atmosphere. The Student Life Building serves as a gathering place for student activities including clubs and organizations, visiting musical artists, speakers and exhibits. Within the state-of-the-art facility is a Barnes & Noble bookstore, the Market¬place Café, pool tables, flat screen televisions, and an outdoor patio area.
Most importantly, though, Wayne College is a place where students, teaching and learning are our top priorities. It is a place where faculty and staff are committed to the success of each student, a place where we will work together to help you reach your educational and personal goals.
We wish you all the best and look forward to meeting you!
