UA Wayne College Announces 2012 Distinguished Alumni Recipient
The University of Akron Wayne College Alumni Association is proud to recognize David Lehman as its 2012 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient.
Lehman is the President and CEO of Mennonite Mutual Insurance Company, a local company specializing in insurance coverage for churches and farms. Lehman has been with Mennonite Mutual for 33 years and helped the company increase their two primary lines of business by over 20% last year. Lehman says his education equipped him with the analytical and management skills necessary to help the company succeed.

Mary Ellis Named 2012 Writer Of The Year
Medina County resident Mary Ellis was named the 2012 Writer of the Year at The University of Akron Wayne College’s Writing Awards ceremony on Saturday, April 14. The ceremony was held during the College’s annual Writers Workshop.
UA Wayne College Announces 2012 Writing Award Winners
High school, college and community writers recently received awards for their work at The University of Akron Wayne College’s annual Writers Workshop. For twelve years, UA Wayne College has recognized exceptional writing with its Writing Awards and for nine years has offered workshops to help writers sharpen their skills. The competition recognizes students from area high schools, Wayne College students and regional writers for projects they submitted at the end of the fall semester.

High School Summer Scholarship Opportunity!
There will be a scholarship available to qualified graduating seniors who choose to take summer courses at The University of Akron. This scholarship will be given to graduating high school students who will be attending UA in the fall or to graduating high school guest students who will be attending elsewhere for the fall semester. The scholarship is for $325 dollars. If a graduating high school student has at least a 3.0 GPA, at least a 21 on the ACT and will be taking 3 credits or more, they are eligible for the scholarship. All students who plan to use this scholarship must submit their final high school transcript. Students can take courses at any of the Akron locations.
Also, Akron is offering $300 for current UA students who take selected UA courses. Plus there is an opportunity to take courses during the three-week intersession at Akron.
