UA On Display at Wayne College

03/08/2017

The University of Akron Wayne College invites the community to attend Milkshakes & Majors, a free career counseling event on March 22 from 10 am – 1:00 pm in the J.M. Smucker Co. Multi-Purpose Room. The College is located at 1901 Smucker Rd. in Orrville.

An annual display of the educational opportunities available through the University of Akron system, Milkshakes & Majors is a one-stop-shopping event where representatives are available to answer questions about the many degree programs offered through UA, which includes Wayne College, and the Holmes, Medina, and Lakewood branches. Student services representatives and the military are also available to discuss financial options that can make college more affordable.

Last spring nearly three out of every four UA Wayne associate degree graduates was placed into a job or decided to continue their education. Those graduates earned on average $34,550, which is comparable to average salaries earned by some students graduating with bachelor’s degrees. Wayne College offers associate degrees in many high demand areas as well as a bachelor's degree in organizational supervision, and both a bachelor's and master's degree in social work.

“Choosing a college major can be an overwhelming experience," said Carol Pleuss, M.Ed, LPC, and coordinator of career and assessment services at UA Wayne. "Milkshakes & Majors is a fun and engaging way for students and the community-at-large to explore all of the different career paths available to them close to home through the University of Akron system."

When asked where the milkshakes fit in, Jackie Ashbaugh, coordinator of student activities said, “Milkshakes just make it more fun! We started this event 10 years ago and needed something to attract students. We came up with free milkshakes and it's been so successful that it's become our trademark for this event."
