UA Wayne College Holds Academic and Graduation Recognition Ceremony
On Friday, May 10, The University of Akron Wayne College held its fourteenth Academic and Graduation Recognition Ceremony in the J.M. Smucker Multipurpose Room of the Student Life Building. The event, which recognizes the accomplishments of associate degree recipients, certificate awardees, high grade point averages and achievements in specific subject areas, has become a highlight of the spring semester. More than 200 students, guests, faculty and staff members attended this year’s event.
Dean Emeritus of The University of Akron Wayne College Dr. Jack Kristofco, offered the keynote presentation. He gave graduates five pieces of advice and challenged them to pick one to implement. The advice included never giving up, that anything worth doing is worth doing well, talent isn’t worth much unless you know what to do with it, finding your passion and integrating it into your life, and creating a sense of balance in life.
A slideshow highlighting student events throughout the year was a new and engaging addition to the event. The presentation was created by student assistant Nonya Stalnaker and introduced by Julie Yockey, the College’s associated student government co-president.
The evening was further enhanced by the music of Wendy Barlow, a harpist who has played at thirteen of the fourteen Academic and Graduate Recognition ceremonies. The coordinator of the successful and enjoyable event was once again Lindsie Webb, senior administrative assistant to the dean.
