Dr. Denise Uitto Named Interim Associate Dean of UA Wayne College

The University of Akron Wayne College is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Denise Uitto to the position of interim associate dean of instruction. Uitto served as coordinator of the College’s Paraprofessional Education Program from 2006 until her retirement in 2012. She has taught courses in educational psychology, early childhood special education, and special education courses in collaboration and behavior management.

Uitto earned her bachelor’s degree in speech pathology from Bowling Green University, her master’s in special education from The University of Akron and her Ed.D. in educational leadership from Ashland University with a cognate in professional development.

She is a member of the Council for Exceptional Children, Teacher Education Division and the Paraeducator Special Interest Group and the Leadership Forum for the National Resource Center for Paraeducators. Uitto serves as a presenter on issues regarding educational paraprofessionals and the supervision of paraprofessionals for local, state, and national professional conferences.

In her new role, Uitto will provide leadership and supervision to full-time faculty as well as to the office of academic affairs, the library, and institutional research. Additionally, she will collaborate in the development of course schedules and academic programming.
