Learn What College Financial Aid Options Are Available To You

Recent reports show that nearly 80 percent of U.S. students receive some type of financial aid to help fund their education. According to the U.S. Department of Education's data collection and analysis division, 60 percent of these students receive financial aid from the federal government. The process can be overwhelming, but The University of Akron Wayne College is here to help.

The College is hosting a series of events to learn about the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which is the first step in the financial aid process. Each event is free and open to the public.

Jan. 4, 7 -8:30 p.m. --Financial Aid Information Night-- Community Room, main building. Learn about the types of financial aid that are available and how to apply.

Feb. 5, 19, March 5 & April 2, 9 a.m.-noon --FAFSA Workshops-- Computer Lab A225, main building. Please bring a photo ID and 2010 tax returns for student and parents, or W2’s if taxes have not been completed. This is an opportunity to fill out the application forms on-line, with college financial aid experts on hand to answer your questions.

Feb. 13, 2 p.m. --College Goal Sunday-- Holmes County Higher Education Center. This is a state-wide event at locations throughout Ohio. Financial aid counselors will be on hand to answer your questions and help complete your FAFSA. Go to www.ohiocollegegoalsunday.org for more information and to register.

Wayne College is a regional campus of The University of Akron and offers the first two years of general bachelor’s degree coursework for students who plan to complete their degrees at the Akron campus or other colleges and universities. The College also offers a number of professional development courses as well as a bachelor’s degree in organizational supervision (BOS) for those who hold a completed two-year technical degree from a regionally-accredited institution.
