Celebrate National Poetry Month at The University of Akron Wayne College

April is National Poetry Month. The University of Akron Wayne College library will celebrate by hosting a poetry reading featuring local author and poet Joanne Lehman on Wed., April 30 at 7 p.m. in the Community Room of the Main Classroom Building. The College is located at 1901 Smucker Rd. in Orrville. The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

Adjunct professor of English Composition at UA Wayne, Lehman is the author of two poetry chapbooks. Chapbooks are small collections of poetry that are stapled or saddle-stitched into a booklet of 30-40 pages. Her most recent publication is Driving in the Fog. Her earlier chapbook, Morning Song, won the 2004 Wick poetry prize from Kent State University.

Lehman earned an MFA in creative writing from Ashland University and is the author of four books. She has worked as a journalist, a public relations specialist, and as an educator. Her publications include a novel and a book of creative nonfiction, and she has authored many articles for local newspapers. Her poems, essays, and articles have appeared in Artful Dodge, Greta River Review, Farming magazine, Rejoice and Dreamseeker. Lehman was recognized in 2009 as Wayne College Writer of the Year, an award recognizing outstanding writing achievements of authors in Wayne, Holmes, and Medina Counties.
