Block Camp For Kids at UA Wayne Holmes Campus

Interlocking block creations can now be taken home by students

A new interlocking block camp for kids is coming to the Wayne College Holmes Campus this summer. Block camps, which introduce kids to engineering principles, have been a popular summer option at the Holmes Campus in Millersburg for years, but a change to the traditional favorite is expected to create even more interest this summer. For the first time, camp attendees will be able to take home each and every creation they make at the four-day long camp.

Holmes Campus coordinator John Lorson says the designs this year will be pullback cars and that students become “mini-engineers” during the camp, participating in experiments deigned to demonstrate science and engineering concepts as well as laws such as gravity, potential energy and kinetic energy.

Called Pullback Car Frenzy, the camp is $99 per student and will allow attendees to build between six and 15 cars each. The camp is offered for two different age groups, each using the same build kit, but with older children moving along more quickly and delving more deeply into the science behind the project.

Enrollment is capped at 16 students per session and will fill quickly. Register by July 6 by calling the Holmes Campus at 330-674-2514. The Campus is located at 88 E. Jackson St. (Ohio 39), Millersburg.
