Wayne College Summer Classes Begin in May

04/08/2014

The University of Akron Wayne College is offering a variety of courses this summer, with three, five, and eight-week sessions available: the three-week session begins 5/19; the first five-week session begins 6/9; the eight-week session begins 6/9; and the second five-week session begins 7/14.

According to Wayne College Senior Director for Student Life and Enrollment Management Gordon Holly there are many reasons to take courses this summer.

“The ZipStart program is an exciting new option for incoming freshmen who want to get a jump start on college,” he said. “The program offers qualified students the opportunity to begin their college experience at a special rate, with one summer course offered at $500 or two summer courses for $1,000, regardless of the number of credit hours in the course.”

To participate in the program, an interested person must submit an application for admission and be admitted as a new student to Wayne College or the Akron campus for the fall 2014 semester. Only students who are first time college students qualify for the ZipStart program. The student must attend the new student orientation and register for courses in both the summer and fall semesters. Only general education courses taken during the summer semester qualify for the ZipStart program.

In addition to new freshman, guest students from other colleges/universities and current Wayne College students can benefit from summer classes.

Academic adviser Rebekka Reusser says she sees many advantages for guest students who choose to take summer classes at UA Wayne College, including affordable tuition- which is 30% less than most 4-year Ohio public colleges and universities, the chance to work toward early graduation and the opportunity to receive more one-on-one instruction compared to the regular school year.

Credits earned at UA Wayne are easily transferred to other institutions within the Ohio university system and UA Wayne offers the first two years of most undergraduate degrees available at The University of Akron’s main campus.

“The class schedule here is also a plus for students who intend to work over the summer,” Reusser said. “Students can register for classes that meet only twice a week, and have more employment options than students who are in class Monday through Friday.”

Day, evening, and limited online classes will be offered during the summer. For a complete list of classes offered this summer, visit the College website at wayne.uakron.edu/courses or call 330-684-8900.
