Two Swarovski Chandeliers Available at Wooster Rotary Auction
People who knew the late Norma Jean Amstutz probably remember her as a founding leader of Wayne College – someone who was passionate about establishing a college in Orrville. They might also remember that she was passionate about collecting glassware, such as the spectacular crystal chandelier that sparkled in her dining room. On Saturday, April 5, those two passions will come together as chandeliers from the Amstutz estate are sold at the Wooster Rotary Auction with a portion of the proceeds benefitting Wayne College.
Amstutz’s daughter, Deb Molnar, said the chandeliers were a prized possession of her mother’s, so she wanted them to end up someplace they would be appreciated, but they just didn’t fit into the style of her own home. When a home appraiser mentioned the Wooster Rotary Auction to Molnar, the pieces of the puzzle came together. “Donating my portion of the proceeds from the chandeliers she loved to the college she also loved was a perfect solution,” Molnar said.
The chandeliers are Swarovski Schonbek crystal chandeliers—one from the Trilliane collection and the other from the Equinoxe collection. The Trilliane chandelier, which retails for $13,000 is crafted of Swarovski Elements, the highest quality leaded crystal available, in an intricate composition of crystal in leafy shapes with flowering chains encrusted with crystal. It has 468 individual crystals and 15 candelabra bulbs. The Trilliane is a smaller version of the Trilliane chandeliers used in the film Black Swan. A copy of the DVD is included as a bonus with this chandelier. The Equinoxe chandelier is composed of a matrix of eight-point star shapes inspired by ancient mosaics. It includes clear gem cut crystals to create an eye-catching postmodern chandelier.
According to Wayne College’s interim dean, Dan Deckler, the proceeds from Molnar’s donation will benefit the Wayne College Founders Scholarship, which last year offered 172 scholarships totaling nearly $90,000.
“The Wayne College Founders Scholarship was established to make educational opportunities available to students in our community and honor the founders of the College. The 34 Founding Leaders provided the leadership that eventually led the Ohio Board of Regents to establish a branch campus of The University of Akron here in Wayne County,” Deckler said.
The Rotary Club is selling the chandeliers during the featured item portion of the auction scheduled to begin Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in the Wooster High School auditorium. There is no charge to attend or register for the auction and food is available for purchase. The auction begins at 4:00 p.m. on Friday and 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The areas are open two hours before the auction for preview.
