Kids and adults alike can have fun while learning this summer at a variety of non-credit “for fun” courses offered by the University of Akron Wayne College Holmes Campus in downtown Millersburg.
Lego camps have always been popular with the younger crowd and this summer, the center will offer:
All About Learning’s
Junior Vehicle Engineering (grades 1-3)
Monday through Thursday, June 3-6, 9 a.m.- noon.
Students will creatively build, modify and race different vehicles, including everyday vehicles, concept cars and construction machines.
Collision Cars (grades 4-8)
Monday through Thursday, June 3-6, 1-4 p.m.
Collision Cars encourages students to build a variety of cars for battle. It is a class of exploration, problem solving and risk taking with how machines work and compete.

Young Photographers’ Workshop:
Mondays, June 10 and 17 from 10-a.m. to 1 p.m. each day.
Mondays, July 8 and 15 from 10-a.m. to 1 p.m. each day.
The classes are which are designed for students ages 11-15. In the first of the two classes, young photographers will look at how to find, compose and capture a great photo, while the second class will offer tips in how to enhance and correct photography using some online editing programs.
Young Writers’ Workshop:
Mondays, June 24 and July 1 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
Cost also is $35.
In this workshop, aspiring writers will look at different writing styles and will work to create an awesome piece of literature for themselves.
Wednesday, July 17, 9 a.m.- 4 p.m.
The Center will team with the American Red Cross to offer a one-day babysitters’ training for ages and 11 and up. This course, which costs $90 and includes lunch, will teach students how to care safely and responsibly for infants and children and also will offer leadership skills and tips on how to build a babysitting business.
“FOR FUN” FOR ADULTS
“Getting Started” : June 11 or August 5 (both 6-8 p.m.)
Attendees will review digital camera operations, along with proper framing, lighting and composition.
“After the Shot”: June 18 or August 12 (from 6-8 p.m.)
This class is for those who are getting comfortable with their cameras and are ready to move on to different types of camera work and styles, as well as working with online editing programs.
Those signing up for both classes receive a discount of $35 for both.
Beginning Practical Spanish
Tuesdays and Thursdays from July 9 through July 25 from 6-8 p.m.
A perfect class for adults who want to pick up some basic conversational Spanish, perhaps for a trip or for use at work.
