To say John Lorson has deep roots at Wayne College might be an understatement. The fact that his mother was actually raised in the Barnet-Hoover Farmhouse is only the beginning. John began his college career here in the early 80's, serving on Student Senate as Vice-President in '82, President in '83, and received the "Warrior Service Award" in 1983. After graduating from the University of Akron, John returned to Orrville where he spent 15-years with the City of Orrville, most of which were spent at City Hall helping citizens with zoning, planning and construction issues. During that time he remained an active champion of Wayne College, and has served for the past several years on the Wayne College Alumni Board. In January of 2006, John accepted the position of Admissions Counselor and Coordinator of Student Activities at the college. He specializes in assisting adult and non-traditional students.
In addition to his duties at the college, John is also a writer, humorist and local entertainer. His humor column "Send Help" has appeared weekly in local newspapers-accompanied by his wife Kristin's illustrations-for over 10 years. His book "Send Help-Delights, Dilemmas and Delusions of a Modern Midwestern Man" (also illustrated by Kristin) was published in 1999. A second book "Master of None" is due out next fall. John also serves as a news and features correspondent for The Daily Record in Wooster.
A frequent coffeehouse performer, John created, and has hosted, the Community Coffeehouse Jam, an Orrville summertime tradition for the past 12 years. He also hosts a Writer's and Poet's Workshop at the Orrville Junior High each spring, and frequently speaks in schools, libraries, and anywhere else where people aren't inclined to throw rotting vegetables.
An avid bicyclist and racer for over 20 years, John is the President of the Orrville Cycling Club, and can frequently be seen rolling down the roads of Wayne and Holmes Counties with his friends and family.
