Biography

Dr. Debra Johanyak grew up in Akron, Ohio. Her graduate studies included a year in Shiraz, Iran, where she held a teaching assistantship. Debra was a visiting professor at Kent State University before coming to The University of Akron Wayne College, where she currently is Professor of English. She is Past President of the Ohio Association of Two Year Colleges (1999-2000).
 
Debra enjoys writing and has published three books: Shakespeare's World (2004), Behind the Veil (2007), and The English Renaissance and the Idea of Asia (2010) as well as several articles and short stories. Recently she completed her first feature film highlighting the problem of child abuse. Titled More than Chance, the movie is based on the true story of Russian adoptee Kelsey Minick.
